Toddlers / Jr. Preschool
(1 to 3 years)
At about 16 months, children usually move into the Toddler room, where we emphasize using language to express needs and as a tool for social interaction. Musical and art activities foster use of a wide range of budding talents. Movement is a major part of the program, and many songs and games are introduced at this level. For those children who show interest, toilet learning is encouraged. Self-help skill development continues.
Junior Preschoolers are children whose language and motor skills permit them to follow more complex directions and do many things by themselves. At this stage, children begin to learn to resolve conflicts with less adult intervention. Self-esteem is developed through praise of the child’s efforts and through reinforcement of a positive self-image that is fostered by encouragement, repeated successes with age-appropriate activities, and loving surroundings. This is a transition period in which children are beginning to master the skills that signal the beginning of self-sufficiency.
