Who Are We?
Common Ground Child Care Center, located at 1700 Wainwright Drive in Reston, Virginia near Reston Town Center, is a not-for-profit corporation. The Center was started in 1972 by the Common Ground Foundation, an organization created to provide solutions for the needs of the community of Reston. The Center’s goal is to provide high-quality child care to all segments of the community. We maintain this tradition through participation in the Fairfax County Child Care Assistance Program for low- and moderate-income families. Although day to day operations are handled by the Director, Common Ground Child Care has an all volunteer Board of Trustees whose members are ultimately responsible for all aspects of the center. They're entrusted with making sure that management decisions are in the best interest of the centers staff and children and that the original ideals under which the center was founded are upheld.

Common Ground Child Care Center is a member of the Reston Child Development Council. We are state-licensed for 120 children but we try to keep enrollment at 88 or less. We have year-round child-care programs for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Before- and after-school programs and summer camp are provided for elementary school children. A part-time preschool program is also offered. Common Ground is open to all families and does not discriminate in its hiring practices or its acceptance of children on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, disability, or religious preference.

What Are Our Goals?
The primary goal of Common Ground is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children of various ages. The daily program provides experiences that promote growth, self-worth, and age-appropriate development for each child. Our secondary goal is to supply high-quality, affordable child care that meets the needs of our parents.

What Do We Believe about Children?
Children are the most precious treasures in the universe. Each child is an important individual. We believe it is important for children to be in an age-appropriate environment with the guidance of trained staff where they are free to observe, think, and appreciate the world around them in their own unique ways.

It is our responsibility as teachers and administrators to foster the process of helping children learn to respect themselves and others. We believe that educators have the responsibility to nurture children and help each individual achieve a high level of self-esteem, master self-help skills, and develop self-discipline.

Why Are Parents Important?
Because the Center is entrusted with the care of children, Common Ground parents and staff enter into a very special relationship. Our relationships with parents are as important as our relationships with children. As in any family, frequent and open communication is essential to building and strengthening close bonds. This communication, along with mutual cooperation, helps to build an atmosphere in which we can provide the best possible care for each child.
